History
The Dawson Creek Dartfish began in January 2017 under the name Dawson Creek Masters Swim Club. The Club adopted the name Dartfish in the summer of 2017. This is the first regularly running adult club in approximately a decade in Dawson Creek. In 2006, a club called the DARRTS swam their last season. Prior to this club was another called the Dawson Creek Gray Beards that was affiliated with the Dawson Creek Seals Swim Club, which is still the City's youth swim club.
Why "Dartfish?"
The name Dartfish was chosen for a couple different reasons. The first is that in Dawson Creek there used to be a fish local residents called a "dartfish." While it is unlikely that these were real dartfish, as dartfish are saltwater fish, the name pays tribute to some of the local history. The second reason is that the previous regularly running adult club was called the DARRTS. We are a different group than the DARRTS, but with our name we also give a nod to those who came before us. |
